Today was my first day in my new calling as First Counselor in the Young Women's in my ward. It is a scary and exciting calling all at once. None of my previous callings have entailed this much responsibility, so that is daunting, but neither have any of my callings had this much potential for fun.
Our ward's Young Women's is very small. Most of the girls are inactive, so that presents a challenge. Only three girls were there today, so there were more leaders than girls. This is a big change from when I was growing up. We always had quite a few girls that came to church each week.
I think another challenge will be my schedule. We have set schedules now at work, and I set it up before I knew about this calling, so I work every Wednesday, which is Mutual night. I need to figure out if there is any way to tweak my schedule, so I don't have to worry about it. As is, I can probably go every other week; I will just have to make sure that I stay on top of my charting and work load. I always felt more respect and appreciation for my leaders who regularly came to activities, so I want to be that type of leader. I really want to be one of those leaders that is a good example and friend, someone they can come to when they need to talk. I had so many good leaders growing that I want to give back to the next generation. That last sentence just made me feel old, but such is life. J
This week's activity is a hike, so I am excited for that.
